Are You Lost? (part 2)

Read: Luke 15
Maybe you are a new christian that will get lost, or a long time christian that has gotten lost, or maybe you are lost now.
I want to talk to you today about getting  into God’s will. If you are in God’s will you may be thinking that ” getting lost” will  not happen to you.
~ it can happen to anyone of us at anytime.
~ 1 Corinthians 10:12…Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall
~1 Peter 5:8 b the devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.
Let’s compare the “lost sheep” Maybe you were in your race as a christian and you got “luke warm” you wandered off, to the “lost coin” you were not found yet. ( not a christian) or maybe you were the “lost son”, you deliberately left God’s will.
Getting into or back into God’s will must be deliberate!
Luke 15: 11-17 This story is familiar to some of us, like this man, one day we are ok and then after a time of making wrong decisions we ended up in a really bad situation. The son ended up penniless, homeless, starving, degraded to the point of feeding pigs and eating their left overs.
Let’s look at his steps downward
1.)  SELFISH~   12 “And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.”
~ He disregarded his father and his goodness, hard work and his father’s  legacy.
~ He wanted his money and he wanted it now.  this is the world we live in…i  want to feel good, i want that new car, I want to do it my way..
2.) HASTILY~ 13 ” And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.”
~ not many days: he went quickly
~ to a far country: sounds far away, like a million miles but a far away place can be one step outside the will of God
3.) WASTEFUL~ still on verse 13, he wasted his substance with riotous living.
~ how many of us does this fit? is our sin not wasting us away?
~ alcohol and drug addiction, sex, money, theft,
~ brings to mind Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, they die because of      their riotous living and we say what a waste…
4.) SEPARATION~ he left his family, friends, everything that he knew.
~ would you use that drug in front of your family?
~ would you announce to your family that you just stoled clothes from Walmart?
~ are you proud to have to make that phone call for bail money?
~he rejected everything that was good in order to follow his own selfish desire
5.) ROCK BOTTOM~ 14 “And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.”
~ Now he had wasted his money on sin, his life on sin and now he is hungry
~ that life of sin is now rock bottom..this is where the only way to look is up
~ And now….he wants to go home
Things Begin To Change
1.) AWAKENING~    17 “And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!”
~not because he missed his life back home, his family…he was HUNGRY
~ he had the o-no moment, probably similar to hearing these doors lock behind your for the 1st time.
~ God knows that you wouldn’t return to Him if you could have your needs  met in sin.
2.) REPENTANCE~  18 “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, “
~ definition : a change of mind that leads to a change of life: to turn around  from.
~ admitting that you are solely responsible for the mess you are in.
3.) HONESTY~ still on verse 18; when you repent you have to become honest.
~ then you will know that you are serious about changing your life
~ stop making excuses for your behavior
~ stop blaming everyone else
4.) HUMILITY~  19 “And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.”
~ he came home with no conditions
~ ready to make changes with no argument
5.) RESOLVE~ 20 “And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”
~ he decided what needed to be done and he did it
~ what are we waiting for
So, lets review what just happened in this story. He hit rock bottom and that was his AWAKENING.,that lead to REPENTANCE, and now he had to get real HONEST and look at all the wrong he has done and in HUMILITY do what needs to be done to RESOLVE the situation…
This parable is a story to teach is how Jesus welcomes us home no matter where we have been. These steps I have shared with you are relevant to mending relationships, not just with the Father..anyone.
Many thanks to Brother Glen Shuman for this lesson.
